Oversized baluchon-style shoulder bag in black lamb leather with a hand-twisted strap and worn matte finish, giving the impression that the whole bag has been twisted into shape. Diagonal zip closure in aged silver-tone hardware runs into the strap. Strap adjusts at the base through a silver-tone O-ring, with a knotted leather cord finishing in two raw, blade-cut tails.

SISTERE is the label of Japanese designer Yutaka Kojima (b. 1980). It began in 2004 as a concept shop in Kyoto, where Kojima — self-taught — started making clothes and grew the project into a full fashion brand. In 2012 he was named one of 15 designers representing the future of Japanese fashion in the Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and contributed work again when the exhibition traveled to the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto in 2014.
The brand works in contrasts: strong black against uncertain, abstract color; fine silk against raw cotton, linen and cashmere; structural patterns built from dozens of pattern pieces alongside flat garments cut from a single length of cloth. Kyoto remains its base.
